How to see the exact time when your WhatsApp message was read

It's easy to know if your WhatsApp message has been read thanks to the check marks next to each message. However, did you know that you can also check the time on WhatsApp messages to see when the other person has seen them?

In this article, we are going to show you how to check the time seen by WhatsApp for your messages.

How to display the time of the message seen on WhatsApp

To see the reading time of your WhatsApp message, first open WhatsApp on your phone. Find the message you want, and then long-press it.

When you do this, you will see new icons appear along the top bar. Press the three menu button dots , then choose Info . This will display the Delivered and Read times for your message. Of course, Delivered is when your message arrived on their device, Lis indicates when the recipient actually opened it.

You can do this in one-on-one discussions and group messages. In group discussions, you can see the delivery and reading times for each individual. Tap their name in the list for more details. However, note that you cannot get the message reading times for other people's messages.

If the person has not yet read your message, you will see a dash under the Read field. However, you might come across a case where the information in the WhatsApp message says "read" but doesn't have the time. In this case, the other person has probably disabled WhatsApp read receipts. This is one of the ways to use WhatsApp while preserving your privacy

How to use WhatsApp while preserving your privacy

Do you want to use WhatsApp in secret without giving a lot of information to others? Then, these are the parameters to be adjusted in order to remain discreet.

Disabling read receipts prevents WhatsApp from being displayed when you have seen messages. This is why there is no time, even if the message says “read”.

You can turn off read receipts yourself by going to Settings> Account> Privacy and turning off the Read receipt slider. It also prevents you from seeing other people's reading receipts. Keep in mind, however, that read receipts are always turned on for group chats.

Display the reading time of messages on WhatsApp Web

You can follow a similar process using WhatsApp Web to see what time someone is reading your WhatsApp message. Just open the chat and mouse over the message that interests you. Click the small arrow that appears in the upper right corner, then choose Message Information .

You will then see a similar screen showing you the Delivered and Read times for your message. Unlike the mobile app, you can only see Lis times in group discussions, not Delivered times. And remember, if the message says "read" but doesn't have a time stamp, the other person probably turned off the read receipts.

WhatsApp reading hours give you more information

Although you probably don't care about this information all the time, it can be helpful to know exactly when someone read your WhatsApp message. You may want to make sure that they arrived at their destination safely, for example.

And if there is no time displayed, make sure your own read receipts are turned on for it to work in the future.
